ALMOST AS SOON AS I STARTED OUT AS A FREELANCER…
I realized that there wasn’t a lot of information out there about the unique challenges I was facing. As I figured it out inevitably people started coming to me for advice. Thus was born the idea for a site geared towards this growing community of people like me, my friends and colleagues. I decided to call it HOME-WERK. The name is both a play on the school assignments we all slogged through as kids and a nod to the urban slang that means “something deserving of applause”.
However you define it — whether you actually work from home, remotely, location independent, as part of team or as a freelancer — it demands a whole new mindset. The COVID pandemic has brought home — pun intentional — the need for a how-to space, of course. But, more importantly, it’s underlined the need for connecting with a supportive community that understands the struggles of balancing day time and play time when it all takes place in the same space. We want HOME-WERK to be your virtual gathering place, the stop that jumpstarts your morning, perks up your afternoon or sends you off in the evening with renewed vigor for your future. Get inspired by other people’s stories. Pick up a few tips on productivity, managing clients or working with colleagues on the other side of the world. Discover new products to make your life easier or more beautiful. Grab a recipe for a drink to mix up that night to help you unwind. But most importantly, we want to hear from you! What’s on your desk? What’s your go-to sandwich? What are you bragging about this week? How do you do it? Our editorial focus is on innovation and inspiration with the aim of educating, enlivening, encouraging, entertaining and engaging readers about the unique challenges and opportunities we encounter — and figuring it out together!
We’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, brags and hurdles. Contact us (well me) at: abigail@home-werk.com
